Frequently Asked Questions

The armor geek website comes into existence out of some of the best and bleakest days of my life.... Several years ago while at collage I made friends with someone whom I would consider a brother for the rest of my life. Through this association I found a natural and suppressed part of myself emerge and blossom. I have never been the type of person that could simple see something and be satisfied. I am a true geek at heart. When I am interested in something I totally immerse myself and not only learn but put into practice what I have learned. In this case medieval period and fantasy gear were consuming for a few years of my life.

Also being a person with a natural disposition to business I was of course able to fund my learning by producing something, documenting it, selling it, and thus was able to buy more materials and developing more patterns.

After some time I found this practice to be very lucrative and started making a great side income from it with the help of my wife. Ultimately one day I had a confrontation with my collage friend where he stated that I should be offering my hard work and learning to the world free and that he felt it was the property of the public domain… while I still don’t agree totally with the misdirected philosophy it did cause something to resonate with me. Unfortunately there was a falling out with this friend and a parting of ways as he went and served in Iraq (damn bush) and our lives frankly went in 2 very different directions as I wasn’t satisfied with stagnation.

Finally I reached a point in my life where I took all my swords, patterns and armor and put it in storage and forgot about it so I could focus on personal growth. After 5 years of storage we moved into a new house and I stumbled across these patterns and gear. I am in a very different place now with my life. But somehow that idea of making them public domain still resonates with me. With the success of other sites I run like InventGeek.com that offer up public domain ideas and projects I ultimately decided to give all my hard work away to you all. Enjoy, learn, grow… but don’t stand still in life. Reach for more outside your little world you live in. success comes to those who seek it actively.

With our patterns you can make your own equipment and save up to 75% on the cost of high quality equipment. And because you make it you can custom design and alter patterns to meet your needs and create new designs! Our patterns are modeled after those of the 14th to 17th Century, and have been made by leather craftsman that actually involves them self’s in LARP’s and SCA competitions! I hope you enjoy our offerings.

Sincerely
