What is the purpose of Armor Geek?
Originally when I put Inventgeek.com together it was only to be used as a personal outlet for my creative needs. Ultimately it has become very successful. Inspired by its success and having a pool of knowledge to draw from I chose to build and publish Armor Geek to share some of this knowledge with others.
Our goal is to provide information, examples and an attempt at an entertaining read all at the same time. Armor Geek is for those people out there who are interested in doing more than just reading that someone did something on some forum... Ultimately we want to provide information that inspires people to do their own tinkering, experimenting and ultimately to follow their bliss.
Who is this site for?
Armor Geek is for anyone who wants to work with their hands to create something. Anyone can go and buy something if they want it bad enough. Ultimately learning by doing tends to be more rewarding. Thusly we focus on patterns so you have the tools to do something. And for what it’s worth, it’s a lot cheaper and you can make better quality things doing it yourself.
Who is Armor Geek?
While Armor Geek is owned and operated by one person. I like to think that Armor Geek is not necessarily a who. But more of a group of likeminded people. If you have ideas or patterns you want to contribute then send us an email.
How is Armor Geek projects funded?
100% out of my pocket. We get a small amount of revenue from Google Ads, but that mostly just covers hosting. Some projects we try to do on the cheap, others we need to do more costly research and development of prototypes before we ever publish something to the world. As with many things in life, cash is king. Our ability to bring projects to the community is entirely as the discretion of the dollar.
What makes Armor Geek different from other sites?
Armor Geek differs from many out there. We want you in some way or in part to expound on the projects we have done. We revel in great and new discoveries.... but we cherish the ability of creative and divergent thinking with a practical or even semi-practical use in our daily lives. Take what we have done here and add to it. We know some parts are rough and unrefined. But that's the whole goal. To at least create a framework that others can add to and evolve into something really great. It is with that spirit that humanity exists, open source software can have a place in the real world, and those who fear change fight and legislate against. So pick up a hammer or torch and put some time into gaining experience, and share what you have learned with others that share the same interest. Experience never hurt anyone, yet unbridled ignorance has. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt "People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built."
